چکیده

This paper proposes an admission control (AdC) mechanism for regulating utilization and bounding delays in IEEE 802.11e. The admission control algorithm in this paper combines a joint measurement-theoretic approach to maintain utilization and mitigate excessive delays. Evaluation through discrete event simulation reveals that the proposed algorithm maintains channel utilization close to the theoretical maximum of 0.9 with bounded delays.

An Efficient Multipolling Mechanism for IEEE 802.11 Wireless LANs

To expand the support for applications with QoS requirements in Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs), the 802.11E task group was formed to enhance the current IEEE 802.11 Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol. The multipolling mechanism was discussed in the task group, but some problems remain unsolved. In this paper, we show a novel design of the multipolling mechanism with the advantages of hi...

Proportional Increase Multiplicative Decrease (PIMD) Wireless Scheduler: An Efficient Scheduler for IEEE 802.11e HCF

In this paper, we propose a new wireless scheduling algorithm for the IEEE 802.11e HCF. The algorithm grants the mobile stations variable time for the upstream data flow in proportion to the queue size of the transmission buffer. At the same time, it retrieves half of the extra time allocated in previous cycle from those flows whose requirement has stopped. Hence, the system achieves stability ...

Feedback-based bandwidth allocation with call admission control for providing delay guarantees in IEEE 802.11e networks

The 802.11e working group has recently proposed innovative functionalities in order to support delay-sensitive multimedia applications, such as real-time voice and video, in Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs). In particular, the 802.11e proposal introduces: (1) the Hybrid Coordination Function (HCF), which is an improved channel access method aimed at allocating the first-hop WLAN bandwidth t...

Adaptive Multi-polling Scheduler for QoS Support of Video Transmission in IEEE 802.11e WLANs

The 802.11E Task Group has been established to enhance Quality of Service (QoS) provision for time-bounded services in the current IEEE 802.11 Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol. The QoS is introduced throughout Hybrid Coordination Function Controlled Channel Access (HCCA) for the rigorous QoS provision. In HCCA, the station is allocated a fixed Transmission Opportunity (TXOP) based on its TS...

Service Differentiation of IEEE 802.11e

The type of the applications for which Internet is being used has changed over the years. Multimedia applications, Real-time applications and Game playing require Quality of service. IEEE has proposed IEEE 802.11e, a quality of service extension to the wireless LAN standard IEEE 802.11. In this paper service differentiation ability of 802.11e is evaluated. Identical traffic is considered for al...
